MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia hit a record-high of $38.6 billion in trade last year, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh told a news briefing on 2 February. In his words, Russia is the main trading partner to Belarus. In 2011 the country accounted for 45% of Belarus’ total trade. According to him, the bilateral trade in goods exceeded the 2008 precrisis level to $38.6 billion. Belarus increased the export of tractors (up $468 million), trucks ($405 million), meat and dairy products ($297 million) to the Russian market. Besides, favorable conditions for supplies of raw hydrocarbons within the Single Economic Space boosted oil imports to load domestic oil refineries and increase the export of oil products to the Russian and European markets.
