Ways to bolster Belarus-Cuba trade, economic cooperation discussed

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Ways to bolster Belarusian-Cuban interaction in trade, economic, scientific, and technical spheres were discussed at the meeting of Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei and Chairman of the State Council and the Council of Ministers of Cuba Raul Castro on 25 June. The information was released by Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, at the meeting the sides noted the high level of trust that had evolved between the two countries. The content of Belarus-Cuba political cooperation in the bilateral format and the multilateral one was praised. Possibilities for contacts at a high level were discussed as well as ways to bolster Belarusian-Cuban interaction in trade, economic, scientific, and technical spheres as well as other areas.

BelTA has learned that during the talks between Vladimir Makei and Raul Castro it was noted that external interference with the independent foreign and domestic policies the two countries pursue was inadmissible. Vladimir Makei passed a personal message from Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to the Cuban head of state.

While in Cuba Vladimir Makei also met with Cuban Industry Minister Salvador Pardo Cruz. The Belarusian side was informed about new development avenues of the Cuban production sector. The sides discussed opportunities for implementing specific bilateral projects. The Cuban Industry Minister was interested in establishing cooperation with a number of Belarusian enterprises. The sides reached an agreement to include a representative of the Cuban Industry Ministry into the Cuban delegation that plans to visit Belarus in autumn 2014.

The Belarusian Foreign Minister and the Cuban Industry Minister also visited an international industry expo together where they were made familiar with the research and technology advances of the Cuban industry and the global industry. Prospects of arranging mutual supplies of Belarusian and Cuban products to the markets of the two countries were discussed with a number of companies during the tour of exhibition booths.
