Truth about history is purposefully and deliberately erased, Lukashenko says

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Today some countries are purposefully and deliberately erasing the true historical record, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the Brest Hero Fortress memorial on 22 June as he took part in the events marking the 70th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War.

“A set of states are purposefully and deliberately erasing the true historical record. Young people are wrongly taught how to interpret the notions of good and evil. An absolutely different morality is implanted today in the society that justifies aggression and domination of one state over another,” the President stressed.

The head of state noted that today some “super-civilized and super-democratic countries” put Soviet soldiers alongside with fascists, conduct show trials over them. “Soldiers Yegorov and Kantaria who unfurled a red banner over the battered Reichstag could hardly suppose that the banner would be later forbidden. Such examples are to be found by the score. A valiant war veteran could never imagine that someone would spit in his face and strip medals and orders from his military uniform. That is how today’s “democratic” countries behave,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President believes it is the ultimate in meanness and cynicism to honor Wassen SS soldiers whose hands are covered with the blood of civilians and prisoners of concentration camps. According to the head of state, the sacred Brest land that was the first to face the Nazi attack understands the message from the past as no one other. “The main point of the message is an appeal of antifascist Julius Fucik: “People, be vigilant”. Do not give second birth to Nazism, xenophobia, racial and religious intolerance, repetition of the horrors of war. Do not believe in smooth words of those advocating new crusades against sovereign nations and states,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President is convinced that this message should be passed on further to the next generations as it is as relevant as ever today. Military conflicts and social cataclysms rage again, people die in different corners of the planet. “The present geopolitical strategists are trying to remake the world map at their own discretion and define “the zones of their national interests”. War has become a card game for them,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian leader has emphasized that the heritage of the Great Victory is a cornerstone for the Belarusian national identity, and the Belarusians will not let others rewrite the history.
