Belarusian business community in favor of Eurasian continental economic platform

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The business community is in favor of creating a Eurasian continental economic platform. The statement was made by Vladimir Karyagin, Chairman of the Presidium of the Republican Confederation of Entrepreneurship, Chairman of the Minsk City Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers, on 28 October, BelTA has learned. Vladimir Karyagin spoke during the online video briefing hosted by the website of the National Press Center of Belarus and the information and analysis website of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

Vladimir Karyagin said: “We would like to see a Eurasian continental economic platform created. Over 30 countries have already demonstrated their interest in the idea. The private sector needs a broad economic platform, this is why our government and our governing agencies of the Eurasian Economic Union should more intensively negotiate to attract partners and sign free trade agreements with the main partners — India, China, Indonesia, and Turkey.” In his words, the efforts can attract more capabilities of these countries to the Eurasian Economic Union.

Vladimir Karyagin regretted the fact that as far as politics is concerned, new borders and barriers are being erected while the business community would like to see wide open economic space. “It is necessary to rely on trade turnover instead of prices. The private sector would like the principle to apply at the political level, too,” explained Vladimir Karyagin. He called upon politicians, heads of government and ministries to communicate taking into account interests of the private sector among other parties.

“We have to meet more often for that. It is necessary to build effective dialogue platforms at the level of the Eurasian Economic Union. It is necessary to work out cooperation mechanisms. Trust of all parties is required to achieve that as well as the introduction of ways to assess the regulatory impact during the development of the legal base both at the supranational and the national level. The documents that get adopted have to work. They have to work for the benefit of the national economies and the Eurasian Economic Union,” summed up Vladimir Karyagin.
