Belarus to host 2018 FISU World University Speed Skating Championships

MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – Belarus will play host to the fourth FISU World University Speed Skating Championships in 2018, Nikolai Ananyev, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, Chairman of the Skating Union of Belarus, said at the press conference on 6 January, BelTA has learned.

“In 2018 we will host the FISU World University Speed Skating Championships. I am confident that someday we will play host to World Speed Skating Championships as our skating rink meets all the requirements for hosting such high-level tournaments,” Nikolai Ananyev noted.

He hopes that after the ISU European Speed Skating Championships to be held in Minsk on 8-10 January the International Skating Union will entrust Belarus with hosting larger competitions.

The ISU European Speed Skating Championships will take place at Minsk Arena from 8 through 10 January. Belarus will host the event for the first time. The prestigious tournament will bring together athletes and fans from 17 countries including the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Norway, Russia, and the Czech Republic. Belarus will be represented by Vitaly Mikhailov, Marina Zuyeva and Tatiana Mikhailova.
