Mogilev Oblast surplus in trade with Russia at $1bn in 2013

MOGILEV, 2 April (BelTA) – The trade between Mogilev Oblast and the Russian Federation increased by 2.5% to reach $2.6 billion in 2013, Vice Governor Valery Malashko said at a roundtable held on 2 April to mark the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learnt.

“Last year’s exports increased by 6.9% to make up $1.8 billion. Imports reduced by 6.1% to $0.8 billion. The trade surplus stood at nearly $1 billion. Its growth to the level of 2012 exceeded $0.1 billion,” Valery Malashko noted.

According to the Vice Governor, Belarusians and Russians have been efficiently using their potentials in the scientific sector, implementing a lot of joint projects in various areas, from the industry and agriculture to education and social services. Mogilev Oblast has so far concluded 85 agreements on interuniversity cooperation with Russia.

“Today our states are in the avant-garde of integration processes in the post-Soviet space. It contributes to the wellbeing of our people and in the future will create a robust ground for the development of the Eurasian Economic Union,” Valery Malashko stressed.
