Mogilev Oblast, Aragatsotn Marz to develop cooperation

MOGILEV, 25 May (BelTA) – The Mogilev Oblast intends to develop cooperation with the Aragatsotn Marz (Oblast) of Armenia, Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Rudnik said as he met with Aragatsotn Marz Governor Sargis Saakyan, BelTA has learnt. “Our regions have many areas of interest. We intend to do our best to bring a new impetus to development of the mutually beneficial cooperation, to strengthen the friendship between the Belarusian and Armenian peoples,” Piotr Rudnik noted. According to him, the development of trade, production cooperation, experience and technologies exchange, the cooperation in education, participation in joint cultural and sports events, tourism should become the priority avenues of the regional cooperation. Piotr Rudnik proposed the mayors of Mogilev and the Armenian town of Talin to sign the agreement on cooperation and establish partnership relations between Mogilev and Talin. In turn, Aragatsotn Marz Governor Sargis Saakyan noted that the Armenian side is ready to develop cooperation with the Mogilev Oblast. “We would like to import your agricultural products, tires, elevators, construction hoists and other goods, develop tourism business. We are sure that the first visit to the Mogilev Oblast will bring a new impetus to development of the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two regions,” Sargis Saakyan said. After the talks, both the sides signed the protocol of intent on developing the interregional cooperation. The Republic of Armenia ranks seventh among the CIS countries on Mogilev Oblast’s trade partners main list. In January-March 2010 the trade between the Mogilev Oblast and Armenia increased 3.1 times to $2.2 million. In the period under review, the export increased 3.2 times, import made up 66.7% over the same period last year. The major export items to Armenia are tires (more than 80%), timber and elevators. Belarus mainly imported synthetic rubber from Armenia ($8.8 thousand).
