Large logistics centre to be set up in Mogilev in 2009

A large transport and logistics center will be established in Mogilev in 2009, BelTA learnt from spokesperson of the Mogilev customs service Ella Chernova. The construction of the centre is stipulated in the concept of the development of customs clearance offices adopted by the State Customs Committee of Belarus for 2008-2013. A customs clearance office in the Mogilev logistics centre will help optimize and re-distribute the flows of goods, speed up the paperwork and reduce the lines. “We are trying to keep up with the times and adjust the forms and methods of our work to the present day challenges,” Ella Chernova noted. Another new method of work is the introduction of an electronic customs declaration at the Bobruisk customs checkpoint which will facilitate and simplify the customs clearance. At present, the Mogilev customs service issues more than 2 thousand customs certificates and customs-clearing forms weekly. All in all, over the eight months of 2008, their number exceeded 134 thousand, or 9% up over the same period of last year. In January-August 2008, Br2.5 billion worth of goods underwent customs procedures. Over the eight months of 2008, the receipt of payments increased by 27% over the same period of last year. In January-August 2008, the law-enforcement officers of the customs service detected 558 administrative violations of the customs legislation, or 200 violations up from the same period of last year. They seized goods at the amount of Br1.5 billion. These goods were arrested. The most common violations were: alcohol and tobacco smuggling, exports violations, transportation of goods using false documents.
