Mogilev to host Belarusian-German twin towns session

MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Belarusian and German twin towns will discuss the cooperation amid the global financial and economic crisis during the 7th Belarusian-German session of twin towns which will be held in Mogilev on 16-17 October, BelTA learnt from Nina Ivanova, Head of the Presidium of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries, executive secretary of the board of the Belarusian public organization “Twin-Towns”. Some 16 Belarusian and German towns have established partnership relations. For instance, Minsk concluded partnership agreement with Bonn. The main goal of the forum is to discuss the common approaches of the mutual help to minimize the economic challenges amid the global crisis and develop the action strategy for the future. The sides will discuss the consolidation of efforts of the local authorities and the civil society to solve the regional problems. Attending the forum will be around 100 participants including representatives of 20 German public organizations which support partnership relations with their Belarusian counterparts, German businessmen. The session will be organized by the Belarusian public organization “Twin-Towns”, the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries, the Mogilev City Executive Committee, the German Fund “West-East Meetings” and the German Friendship Society “West-East” from Berlin. The previous session of the Belarusian-German twin towns was held in Germany in 2007. It was dedicated to improving the Belarusian-German cooperation in social and municipal areas.
