Mogilev, Sumgait sign twin town agreement

MOGILEV, 2 July (BelTA) – The twin town agreement between Mogilev and Azerbaijani town of Sumgait was signed in the Mogilev Town Executive Committee on 2 July. The document was signed by Chairman of the Mogilev Town Executive Committee Viktor Shorikov and Deputy Head of the Sumgait Executive Government Agif Isaga ogly Guluev. In 2007, Mogilev and Sumgait signed the protocol of intentions. In 2008, the sides signed the agreement on establishing and developing the trade, economic, sci-tech and cultural relations. In June, the Sumgait delegation took part in the celebrations dedicated to the Day of the Town of Mogilev. “The establishing the twin town relations will promote the development of the many-sided cooperation between our towns, friendship between the Belarusian and Azerbaijani people. Today, we have mutual interest in development of the trade, economic and sci-tech cooperation. We intend to strengthen the cooperation in culture, sport, education, health care system, town planning and environmental protection,” the Mogilev Mayor said. In January-April 2009, the trade between Mogilev and Azerbaijan made up $1 million, up 50.1% as against the same period of 2008. In the period under review, Mogilev exported goods at the amount of $722.5 thousand, up 6.5 times. Mogilev imported goods at the amount of $319.9 thousand, down 45.2% as against the same period of last year. Lifts produced by the Mogilevliftmash Company are the main export product to Azerbaijan. Starting from 1 January 2009, the Mogilev-based company exported 63 lifts at the amount of $720,000. Mogilev traditionally imports inorganic chemical compounds, fabrics, textiles, fruits and vegetables from Azerbaijan.
