Lukashenko elected chairman of Belarusian People's Congress

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko was elected chairman of the 7th Belarusian People's Congress. The results of the secret ballot were announced by Inna Medvedeva, Chairperson of the Counting Commission of the Belarusian People's Congress, Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee, BelTA has learned.

"As a result of a secret ballot, Belarusian President o Aleksandr Lukashenko was elected chairman of the 7th Belarusian People's Congress by a majority of votes of the congress delegates," she said.

Aide to the President Aleksandr Kosinets was elected Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian People's Congress.

The delegates also elected 13 members of the Presidium of the Belarusian People's Congress. They are:

Rector of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics Vadim Bogush;

General Director of Vitebskoblgaz enterprise Aleksandr Brantsevich;

Chief of the Council of Ministers Office Konstantin Burak;

Nadezhda Ermakova, a delegate from civil society;

Chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Karanik;

Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Legislation of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Marina Lenchevskaya;

Director of the Alexandrov National Cancer Center Sergei Polyakov;

Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Sivets;

Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Ruslan Strakhar;

Judge of the Supreme Court, Chairman of the National Council of Judges Irina Tylets;

Director of the Gomel Chemical Plant Dmitry Chernyakov;

Chairperson of the Belarusian Women's Union Olga Shpilevskaya;

Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Yury Shuleiko.

As BelTA has reported, one candidate was nominated for the post of chairman and one candidate – for deputy chairman. The Belarusian People's Congress Presidium was voted for or against the list of candidates as a whole.
