800 domestic observers accredited for Belarus presidential election
The territorial election commissions for the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus accredited 800 domestic observers, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said at a meeting of the CEC in Minsk on 20 November, BelTA has learned.
"We have set up 153 territorial commissions in the country. Their chairpersons have been elected. On 15 November, we held a web-based workshop with the chairmen of territorial commissions on topical issues of organizing the election. Methodological recommendations for territorial and precinct commissions, memos for domestic observers and the media, and other information materials were sent to the regions. A brochure has been published to assist international observers. By the way, we are preparing it in the English language,” Igor Karpenko said. “As of 18 November, 800 domestic observers have been accredited to the election commissions. Of these, 102 are young people under the age of 31, 590 are women. 144 observers represent political parties nominated and 579 - public associations."
Six domestic observers have been accredited with the CEC of Belarus.
The CEC recalled that a political party, a public association, the labor collective of an organization or the collective of its structural subdivision, and citizens have the right to send one of their representatives to observe the meetings of the relevant election commission, to the polling station.
The accreditation of domestic observers will close on 20 January 2025.
