Mogilevkhimvolokno now full CIRFS member
MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – The Mogilev-based chemical fiber maker Mogilevkhimvolokno has become a full-fledged member of the International Rayon and Synthetic Fibers Committee, the Belgium-based umbrella organization for the European man-made fiber industry, Deputy Head of Mogilevkhimvolokno’s Marketing Department Sergei Kravtsov told BelTA. The CIRFS accounts for over 85% of Europe’s man-made fiber production. The association lobbies interests of its participants in European Union governments, provides aid in resolving economic issues, protects the domestic market from unfair competition, facilitates standardization and certification of products, environmental protection. Mogilevkhimvolokno’s cooperation with the CIRFS began in 2003 when the company became an associated member. The results were obvious. In 2005 CIRFS helped the company to prove to the European Commission that the company does not use antidumping prices for the polyether industrial threads it exports to the European Union. In 2007 Mogilevkhimvolokno managed to have the antidumping duty on polyester fiber exports to the European Union removed. The antidumping duty had been in effect since 1996. The CIRFS membership has enabled Mogilevkhimvolokno to restore the export of polyester fibers and cords to the European Union. The membership has granted the company access to up-to-date information about the state of things on the European market of polyether products and the ability to participate in discussions about draft technical regulations. As a full member Mogilevkhimvolokno will be able to influence the CIRFS policy and freely contact European manufacturers of man-made fibers and cords. “Our achievement has once again confirmed that Belarus is open to cooperation with the European Union,” noted Sergei Kravtsov. Mogilevkhimvolokno is a major European producer of polyester yarns and fibers and the only CIS large manufacturer of dimethyl terephthalate and polyethylene terephthalate. The company was established in 1968 and reincorporated as a joint stock venture in 2002. It comprises four plants and one major manufacturing facility. The product lineup includes over 100 titles. The company employs over 10,000 people.БЕЛТА
