Mogilev forum to discuss traditional culture preservation issues

MOGILEV, 8 October (BelTA) – An international forum, Traditional Culture as a Strategic Resource for Sustainable Development of the Society, will be held in Mogilev on 15-16 October, BelTA learnt from Director of the Mogilev Oblast Center of Popular Art and Cultural Enlightenment Work Oleg Khmelkov.

The forum in its third year will include a number of celebration events to mark the 75th anniversary of the cultural establishment. The participants of the forum will be able to enjoy the popular art of Mogilev Oblast: preserved and revived crafts, songs, dances and rites.

“The forum which has already become traditional is aimed at uniting forces of theorists and experts of different countries in addressing issues related to the preservation of traditional culture. It will be a bright demonstration of an efficient way to hold an intercultural dialogue, sharing the best practices in preserving traditional cultural values. The forum and the anniversary celebrations will be attended by outstanding figures of culture and art of Mogilev Oblast and other Belarusian regions, Russia, France, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Romania,” the director said.

The first day of the forum will feature an arts and crafts trading show near the center. The fair will comprise master classes a concert program for visitors.

The hall of the Mogilev Oblast center will feature an exhibition of weaving works, an exposition of the Belarusian folk-crafts company Skarbnitsa that will display reconstruction of traditional Belarusian national costumes. The program of the forum will include a sci-tech conference, Folklore and Rites as an Authentic Display of the Riches of the Local Cultures. At the conference scientists, fine art experts and ethnographers will get familiar with the folklore and rites of Mogilev District, share knowledge and experience in recording, reconstructing, preserving and popularizing folklore and rite traditions of the participating countries, discuss further international cooperation in the issues discussed at the conference.

A solemn event in the Mogilev Concert Hall will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the cultural establishment. On 16 October the participants of the forum will have an opportunity to get familiar with the traditional autumn rites of the Osipovichi Krai.
