Mayor praises Mogilev role in strengthening ties between Russia and Belarus
MOGILEV, 3 April (BelTA) – Mogilev plays an important role in strengthening economic ties between Russia and Belarus, Mogilev Mayor Vladimir Tsumarev said at a solemn meeting to mark the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia on 2 April, BelTA has learnt.
“In 2013 the Russian Federation accounted for 65% of Mogilev foreign trade, a total of $1.4 billion. The exports made up 82.6%. Mogilev has held trade surplus for many years. In 2013 the surplus exceeded $500 million,” the mayor said.
An important area in developing cooperation is the establishment of direct long-term partner relations with Russian regions where Mogilev companies open representative offices and subsidiaries. Thus, the elevator assembly plant Nizhegorodliftmash was set up in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The Mogotex commodity distribution network is present in Saint Petersburg, Ufa, Perm, Volgograd and Voronezh. OAO Lenta has its dealers in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Saint Petersburg. “Over 100 companies in Mogilev have Russian capital in their authorized funds. Among the biggest is the carriage works and the plant of polymeric tubes. This work is the result of business matchmaking sessions, economic missions and the participation of Mogilev companies in Russian fairs and exhibitions,” the Mogilev Mayor stressed.
According to Vladimir Tsumarev, Russia and Belarus have been steadily developing their cultural cooperation. International competitions, plein airs and festivals, among which is Golden Hit, Magutny Bozha and M@rt.kontakt, contribute to the strengthening and establishment of national ties.
