Belarus grain crop reaches 7m tones

MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) - Belarusian agrarians have cropped almost 7 million tonnes of grain, BelTA learnt from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 13 August, a total of 6,964,000 tonnes of grain was harvested in the country. According to Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats, Belarusian agrarians estimates this year's crop at 8.7-8.8 million tonnes of grain.

As for regions, Minsk Oblast has so far cut 1,710,000 tonnes of grain. An estimated 1.243 million tonnes of grain have been cropped in Brest Oblast. Grodno Oblast has so far harvested 1.293 million tonnes of grain. 940,500 and 937,000 tonnes have been cropped in Mogilev and Gomel Oblasts respectively. Vitebsk Oblast has harvested 763,000 tonnes of grain.

A total of 84% of cropping lands have been combined in the country. Gomel, Brest and Mogilev Oblasts have almost completed their harvest works with 1.7%, 4.7% and 6.4% of lands remained to crop. Vitebsk Oblast has harvested about 61% of its areas under crops.

According to the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the average yield in the country makes up 38.1 centners per hectare, 1.4 centners down from last year. The highest yield has been registered in Grodno Oblast – 50.7 centners per hectare.
