Belarus suggests large-scale investment projects to UAE
ABU DHABI, 28 October (BelTA) – Belarus suggests implementing several large-scale investment projects to the United Arab Emirates, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the UAE Roman Golovchenko.“Looking at the UAE, we see not only a market to sell our products but a partner, who is ready and can invest in the implementation of joint projects in Belarus,” said the diplomat.
“The UAE invests a lot abroad but in this case we are not talking about the more conventional forms of investment such as securities and shares. Belarus suggests several specific large-scale investment projects to the partners in the UAE,” noted the Ambassador. He did not go into details but mentioned that these matters had been discussed at the meeting of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, earlier on 28 October. “Very substantial negotiations on this topic took place today. We will see serious changes with regard to investment cooperation soon,” said the diplomat.
One of the projects is at a high readiness stage. “I think that by the end of the year we will be able to sign the relevant investment contract between the UAE investor and the Belarus government,” noted the Ambassador.
Roman Golovchenko agreed that in Belarus-UAE relations the economic component is slightly behind the political one. “But it is an objective trend because people in the East are not accustomed to doing things in a hurry. They take their time to learn their partners,” said the Ambassador. “The process can take a lot of time. But once the highest level of trust is earned, then a lot of doors will open up before us. I think we are on the threshold of one of the doors like that being opened all the way”.
“We now enjoy very trustful relations with the UAE. Personal relations between the two heads of state have a lot to do with it. I am confident that in the near future we will see a number of very interesting projects, which have become possible exactly thanks to the current level of political contacts,” noted the diplomat.
