Mogilev Oblast to run several projects with foreign donors
MOGILEV, 20 August (BelTA) – Mogilev Oblast is set to implement several infrastructure projects with the help of foreign donors, Mogilev Oblast Vice Governor Viktor Nekrashevich said at a session of the Business Promotion Council on 20 August, BelTA has learned.
“We have already submitted several infrastructure projects to the Economy Ministry. We are ready to materialize these projects with the help of external donors, in particular, international financial institutions or programs of the European Union or the UNDP, and with the help of local businesses. During meetings and discussions with specialists, we have determined clear-cut criteria and forms of cooperation,” Viktor Nekrashevich said.
He called on local businessmen to get involved in the work. This could become a great example of public-private partnership. “Mogilev Oblast is ready to be the first in the country to implement a pilot project and to show that the region can effectively use resources provided by foreign and domestic donors to improve infrastructure. These projects are related to the construction of a ring road around Bobruisk, improvement of the road surface of the existing ring road around Mogilev, construction of waste treatment plants and improvement of collection and sorting of domestic and industrial waste. There is also a project envisaging the active use of the Mogilev airport,” Viktor Nekrashevich said.
In his words, Mogilev Oblast would like the abovementioned projects to be included in the national infrastructure development plan. These projects have already been presented in Switzerland to representatives of the EU and the UNDP. “Some of our proposals have received a go-ahead, although verbally. We hope that the first pilot project will be launched soon. Most likely this will be a project to improve transport infrastructure in Mogilev Oblast,” Viktor Nekrashevich said.
During the discussions, members of the Business Promotion Council suggested considering the establishment of a resort area at the Chigirinskoye water reservoir near the village of Chechevichi, Bykhov District. If implemented, this project will result in the creation of the first eco-resort in Mogilev Oblast. Some tourist infrastructure is already in place there, while favorable investment terms might give an additional impetus to the further development of the area. It should be noted that the area hosts an increasingly popular international event Bard Music and Fishing Festival.
