Mogilev Oblast, Russia’s Orel Oblast seek closer industrial ties

MOGILEV, 23 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ Mogilev Oblast and Russia’s Orel Oblast are interested in deepening industrial cooperation, Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Domanevsky said as he met with a delegation of Orel Oblast headed by Governor Vadim Potomsky, BelTA has learned.

The parties commended the traditionally friendly Belarusian-Russian relations, the willingness to cooperate on the basis of equality, long-term partnership and mutual benefit. The meeting also discussed the development of the existing contacts and forging new ties between the two regions.

According to Vladimir Domanevsky, the two regions should aim for a qualitatively new level of cooperation to overcome the emerging negative trends in trade. “We need to establish direct contacts between enterprises, deepen cooperation between them, actively work to attract investment and create joint ventures. At the moment this is the most reasonable and promising model of cooperation development,” Vladimir Domanevsky said.

For his part, Vadim Potomsky said that the visit to Belarus is primarily aimed at studying the experience in the development of industrial and agricultural industries, social sector, creation of agro-towns, and the work of the utilities services in landscaping and improving population centers. The delegation members also seek to forge new contacts and develop interregional ties in all areas. “We should work together and achieve more efficient results in the economic cooperation. For this we have the necessary potential. We just need to tap deeper into it,” the Governor said.

The parties expressed their interest in the preparation of a draft agreement on trade, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation between the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee and the Government of Orel Oblast. The governors of the two regions consolidated their intentions by signing the protocol of the meeting.

During the three-day visit to Belarus the delegation of Orel Oblast is set to participate in the meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Orel Oblast, and visit industrial and agricultural companies.
