Belarus debuts at Foodex Japan in Tokyo

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) - Belarus made a debut at the international food and beverage tradeshow Foodex Japan 2016, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The event has been organized by the biggest international exhibition center Makuhari Messe in Chiba-city. The exhibition has brought together 3,200 exhibitors from 78 countries. The opening ceremony was attended by Belarus’ First Agriculture and Food Deputy Minister Leonid Marinich. The Belarusian delegation also included Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Japan Sergei Rakhmanov, representatives of different government agencies.

The Belarusian national expo showcases the goods made by the Belgospishcheprom food concern, Lida Milk-Canning Factory, Lidakhleboprodukt bakery, the Belarusian Biathlon Club that has displayed products for a healthy diet, food enterprises of Mogilev Oblast and R&D solutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

On the same day, the Belarusian delegation met with senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. Leonid Marinich spoke about the potential of Belarus’ agricultural sector, particularly focusing on ecological cleanness of Belarusian-made products, the absence of GMOs and chemical additives. He expressed particular interest in establishing ties with Japan in the technological field, including joint research in the area of building factories. The parties also discussed exchanging students of agricultural universities.

The Japanese side welcomed Belarus' participation in Foodex Japan 2016. According to Japanese experts, it will contribute to the promotion of Belarusian products to the Japanese market.

The Belarusian Embassy in Japan also hosted a seminar-presentation of the Belarusian agricultural opportunities and the tasting of Belarusian foods and beverages. The event was attended by over 50 representatives of Japanese companies and organizations concerned, in particular, the Japanese Association for Trade with Russia and New Independent States (ROTOBO), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), trading companies Sojitz, STH Earth, J-Trading.

Representatives of the Belarusian and Japanese companies discussed the supply of Belarus-made food products to the Japanese market. Some arrangements were reached.
